This
is one of the works of the Frescoes in the Sistine Chapel.
Michelangelo Buonarroti, who died in Rome in 1564 at the age of 89
years, was commissioned by Pope Julius II della Rovere in 1508 to
repaint the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel which had been frescoed
earlier by Piero Matteo d’Amelia with a star-spangled sky. The
masterwork was completed between 1508 and 1512.
